Biography
I have been an ELA teacher for 12 years and currently teach at a Title I school in south Texas in the Special Education department. I graduated from Texas A&M University with an degree in English as a first generation college graduate. I am also a children's decodables author and wrote my first book called "Shell Soup?" for Scholastic. I never thought it would be possible for little ole me to become part of that world, yet here I am.
I have been the teacher of record for grades 8-11, but I can honestly say that 10th grade is the most fun. I have been a part of campus educational leadership, collaborated with my peers as a curriculum writer, and provided engaging activities for grades 6-12.
Being a teacher is rewarding, but being a mommy to 2 active boys-one of whom was diagnosed with autism- has been the biggest teaching hurdle. It has taught me to be more patient, to keep helping, and to offer as many opportunities to people as they need to be successful. In my mind, everyone can become successful if given the chance. My goal is to help teachers bring the pep back to their step.
Lastly, as a born and bred Texan, I love all things about where I live. Where else would it be possible to spend a day at the beach and then take a cruise to visit the nearest wildlife refuge? It's the beauty that is Texas, and I love it!
